About This Project
Sharing the wonder of Spain's underground world
Our Mission
The Caves of Spain Guide was created to provide travellers, students, and anyone curious about the natural world with reliable, well-researched information about Spain's remarkable caves and grottos. Spain is home to one of the richest concentrations of accessible caves in Europe, yet many of these sites remain relatively unknown outside the country.
Our goal is to bridge that gap by offering detailed guides that cover the history, geology, visitor practicalities, and cultural significance of each cave. We believe that informed visitors are better visitors, and that understanding the story behind a place makes the experience of seeing it all the more rewarding.
What We Cover
Our guides focus on caves that are open to the public and accessible to general visitors. For each site, we provide:
- Historical context, including how the cave was discovered and explored
- Descriptions of key features and geological formations
- Practical visitor information such as opening hours, ticket prices, and access details
- Recommendations for nearby attractions and activities
- Conservation notes explaining how each site is protected
We draw on published research, official tourism resources, and first-hand accounts to ensure our content is accurate and useful. All information is regularly reviewed and updated, with the most recent revision date noted on each page.
Our Approach to Content
We are committed to producing informational content that respects both our readers and the places we write about. This means:
- All facts and figures are sourced from reputable institutions including UNESCO, the Spanish Ministry of Culture, and the official cave management bodies
- Images are sourced from Wikimedia Commons and are used under appropriate Creative Commons or public domain licences
- We do not accept paid placements or sponsored content
- We encourage responsible tourism and conservation awareness
Get Involved
If you have visited any of the caves featured on this site and would like to share corrections, updates, or suggestions, we welcome your input. You can reach us through the contact page. We are particularly grateful for reports of outdated information, such as changed opening hours or ticket prices, which help us keep the site accurate for future visitors.
Acknowledgements
This project would not be possible without the extensive resources provided by organisations such as UNESCO, Spain Tourism, and the research published by the various cave management foundations. We are also grateful to the photographers who share their work through Wikimedia Commons, allowing sites like ours to illustrate the beauty of these underground spaces.
